Chemonics seeks a landscape ecologist for the anticipate USAID-funded Forest-PLUS II project in India. The project aims to provide technical assistance that supports the Government of India (GoI) and other stakeholders to manage India’s forests as important components of broad-based, inclusive and sustainable economic growth that meet local needs and addresses global environmental challenges. The landscape ecologist will lead Objective 2 of the project focused on factoring ecosystem services into management of forest landscapes. We are seeking individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead Objective 2 focused on factoring ecosystem services into management of forest landscapes;
- Manage a team of experts to conduct quantification and valuation of selected key ecosystem service provided by forests;
- Advise the Indian state forest departments on incorporation of ecosystem services and values in management planning process in coordination with the forestry advisor;
Work with Indian state forest departments and other Indian agencies to develop of incentive mechanisms for managing landscapes to provide ecosystem services.
Qualifications:
Advanced degree (Master’s or equivalent) in forestry, biodiversity conservation, natural resource management or related field required;
8 years of forestry and natural resource management sector expertise, with a focus on ecosystem services;
Proven experience of working on ecosystem services and incentive mechanisms for managing landscapes;
Ability to manage a diverse team of technical and management experts and to interface with various stakeholders ranging from government to non-government organizations, donors and beneficiaries;
Experience working in donor funded projects of similar scope and budget;
Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.
