Girl Effect are looking for a Mumbai based Brand Strategist to lead the brand, media and content strategy for our launch in India. The Indian brand will build on Girl Effect's work in Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Malawi, but will be tailored to respond to the problems facing girls in India, and will be rooted firmly in Indian culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build on cultural and audience insight to develop and help execute the brand positioning and strategy for the new media property
  • Ensure briefing process for content and other creative output is data-driven, inspiring and insightful
  • Help deliver a high-quality product, ensuring buy-in and ownership from all parts of the organisation
  • Draw on global learning and templates where appropriate
  • Brief and help steer the look and feel of the brand
  • Determine and evaluate the brand architecture and media mix for the brand
  • Set the brand strategy and develop necessary on-going research and impact evaluation to evaluate and improve the mix of products
  • Set the content strategy, ensuring all content delivers on brand objectives and adheres to brand values
  • Ensure content is rigorous and delivers on country strategy goals
  • Brief and utilise research in order to improve and enhance the brand and media products
  • Support the partnerships director to evaluate and execute opportunities to extend the reach of the brand through a range of partnerships
  • Ensure results are effectively analysed and communicated to the organisation
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams such as the project director and strategy team based in London and external partners, such as research and creative production partners
  • Represent our work and the thinking behind it both internally and externally, help develop assets such as thoughts pieces and films to support this

Skills and Experience

  • Creative brand strategy – significant applied experience in a brand strategy role, with a demonstrable understanding of how brands work in practice;
  • Ability to apply findings and generate insights from research to solve problems, ideally, with some qualitative research experience;
  • Professional experience and understanding of the Indian entertainment market, ideally with some experience in working with, and briefing content for, entertainment brands
  • Strong communication and organizational skills- ability to inspire and brief a wide range of creative partners
  • An interest in technology, design and innovation
  • Comfortable working face-to-face with adolescent girls and other community members
  • Willing and able to travel regularly within India for work, sometimes under very basic conditions
