Gender Issues in Lebanon

TASKS:

-Under the direct supervision and mentoring of the GVC Global CPA Programme Coordinator, the EU Aid Volunteer will support the implementation of the GVC gender strategy within the Community Protection Approach (CPA) developed in GVC missions (http://www.cpainitiative.org). Women play an active role in all aspects of disaster risk management & resilience building but these roles are mostly invisible, rarely acknowledged and not included into formal systems. Women often get left out of formal mechanisms, therefore, specific focus and special actions need to be put in place to capture and address specific vulnerabilities of women and to recognize and strengthen their capacities. The EU Aid Volunteer will work as part of the International Advocacy and Innovation Unit (IAIU) based in the Mission.

-The EU Aid Volunteer will participate to all relevant meetings with local stakeholders;

-She/he will participate to all IAIU team coordination meetings and missions’ coordination meetings upon discussion with Line Manager;

-She/he will participate when possible to field visits to communities and women supported by GVC.

-She will support and provide Training and Capacity Building to GVC missions’ staff.

-The EU Aid Volunteer will support the design and possible implementation of advocacy and awareness raising activities on gender equality and women participation both at local and national level.

-He/She will suggest and provide guidance for the elaboration of specific advocacy and awareness documents and products on gender.

-He/She will be involved in the use of data from the CPA for specific gender-specific analyses.

-The EU Aid Volunteer will actively support the elaboration and writing of technical, methodological and programmatic documentation on gender equality and women empowerment related areas.

-She/he will have to actively coordinate with the other specialists within the IAIU, particularly Community Empowerment and Nexus, to design cross-thematic analysis and research.

-She will run continuous research on gender to fine-tune, review and develop further tools and methodologies.

-Promote local volunteerism in disaster risk reduction, prevention and response;

-Train local volunteers on organization and implementation of volunteer-based activities, when applicable;

-Promote partnerships and collaboration between local and European organizations;

-Draft and publish articles describing volunteer's experience in the field;

-Gather audiovisual materials to be used in a public awareness activity in the volunteer's local community in Europe;

-In coordination with the NGOs partner of the project, organize and execute a public awareness activity once back in Europe.

-The EU Aid Volunteer shall perform other duties, as required.

REQUIRED COMPETENCES:

Studies:

  • Degree in international relation/social studies/political science/anthropology.

  • Specific gender studies desired.

Languages:

  • Fluency in spoken in English;

  • Knowledge of Arabic or French is an asset.

Skills:

  • Good interpersonal, team working skills and ability to work independently;

  • Good ability to adapt to the situation of instability;

  • Ability to write reports.

Experience:

  • Experience in volunteering desired;

  • Minimum 5 years of working experience in relevant fields.

ELIGIBILITY AND EXCEPTION CRITERIA:

The candidate for EU Aid Volunteers must be a citizen of the EU or a third country national who is a long-term resident in an EU Member State, and must have a minimum age of 18 years.

Availability for the following activities: • Training in presence in April/May 2020; • Pre-deployment induction in WE WORLD-GVC HQ, in Bologna in the second half of May or June 2020; • Deployment starting from the date specified in the vacancy.

DEPLOYMENT:

01/07/2020 - 31/12/2020

CONDITION OF SERVICE:

Hosting Organization:

· The Hosting Organization for the present deployment is GVC Lebanon;

Length of Deployment:

· 6 months;

Deployment duty station:

Beirut/Zahle, Lebanon.

Conditions of service during deployment:

· A monthly Subsistence Lump Sum (677,71Euro per month) intends to cover basic needs and local transport. · In addition, for each month of deployment 100 euro of post deployment resettlement allowance are foreseen. · Accommodation, Visa fees, insurance and airfares will be covered directly by sending and/or hosting organization. · The working calendar will be corresponding to the agenda and system established in the field. · For each month of voluntary activity two days of rest are foreseen, in addition to public holidays. It is highly recommended not to use the rest days during the first and the last month of deployment.

Conditions related to in-presence training:

· If a candidate volunteer is working outside of the EU, travel costs will be fully covered if EU citizens legally reside in a non-EU country for long-term or forever (i.e. who live in that country);

· EU citizens who are on a temporary assignment in a third country that lasts more than 18 months;

On the contrary, only travel costs from an EU country to the training venue shall be covered if:

· EU citizens on a temporary assignment in a third country that lasts less than 18 months;

· EU citizens selected by the same organization or affiliate with which they have an on-going assignment in the third country if this assignment is longer than 18 months;

Please note that more than one candidate per position will attend the training, to create an additional pool to cover drop-outs and unforeseen needs.
