About the project:

This is an EU-funded project designed to reinforce cooperation between EU and India on climate change and energy with a view to ensure a secure, clean, affordable and reliable energy supply for all and to progress in the implementation of the Paris Agreement.

Energy and climate change are at the core of the Joint Statement of the 13th EU-India Summit (Brussels, 30 March 2016), and of the summit vision document ‘EU-India Agenda for Action-2020’. At the summit, leaders from both sides also agreed a Joint Declaration on a Clean Energy and Climate Partnership (CECP). This project will directly support policy dialogue, and support technical cooperation in the areas of clean energy, energy efficiency and climate action between India and the EU and its Member States. It will also contribute to support India's implementation of its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and to enhance resilience to climate change in the country.

About the role:

As Team Leader you will be responsible for the overall coordination of the project, ensuring high-quality activities and effective coordination between the different stakeholders of the project including the EU Delegation in India and relevant brussels-based DGs (ENER, CLIMA, RTD, ENV, GROW, JRC, DG DEVCO), the Indian Government and relevant line ministries (including the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Ministry of Power (MoP), Ministry of Coal, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climates Change (MoEFCC) among others) and implementing consortium members.

You will be directly managing the expert team and be responsible for their performance. We will expect the Team Leader to show strong managerial skills and help develop the capacity of local teams and actors so that Indian expertise in this area is strengthened. Ultimately, at the end of the project, you will be leaving EU-Indian cooperation in the areas of clean energy, energy efficiency and climate change much improved.

You’ll be based in Delhi, but would get to travel around the country as needed during project implementation to engage with necessary partners.

Required experience:

  • You will need a university degree in a relevant discipline such as environmental studies/resource and environmental management/climate change/sustainable urban development/low carbon development/environmental economics/energy efficiency/renewable energy
  • You will need a minimum of 10 years’ experience working on projects covering these technical areas
  • You will need to be able to demonstrate a track record in implementing multi-stakeholder projects, involving such actors as the Government, civil society, private sector or academia, in climate change/low carbon development related fields
  • You will need knowledge of clean energy/energy efficiency/climate change policies in the EU and India
  • You will need to be familiar with EU procedures, ideally coming from experience as a Team Leader in an EU project of a similar scale and scope
  • You will need to be fluent in English. Additional fluency in Hindi would be an advantage
