Do you have it in you to ensure that at least 1% of the Indian population supports a human rights cause in India or globally and joins the Amnesty International Movement?

Amnesty International is a Nobel Peace Prize-winning global movement of over 7 million members and supporters committed to campaigning and action to improve human rights standards enshrined in International Law. In the last 3 years Amnesty International India mobilized over 3 million people who supported human rights campaigns in India.

Position Purpose:

To design strategy, develop and deliver innovative campaigns both digital and off-line that reverberate with peoples sympathies and make people pay attention to the burning issues of human rights in India.

Keenly monitor the external environment to identify key issues and develop relevant campaigns focused on building a Human Rights movement that will help change peoples’ lives.

Leverage various pathways and tools of communication to maximize reach and effectiveness of each campaign.

What will this job mean?

It will mean

· identifying and prioritizing issues which requires Amnesty to campaign on.

· lots of reading and travelling to understand the issue

o internalizing the importance of people power and inspiring millions to believe in their potential for change.

· hours of convincing and persuasion to get people to sign up for your campaign and contribute effectively to ensure impact.

· working with different stakeholders, survivors, public, media, and partnering organizations to bring about the desired change.

· communicating human rights issues in a manner that it touches people’s heart and they are able to take injustice personally.

It will also mean working with a young, energetic and talented bunch of people who might have been lawyers, engineers, journalists, and marketing professionals in their earlier jobs. HERE they are all bound by the same passion for tangible change in people’s lives to make India a rights respecting society

Key Responsibilities:

Campaign Strategy Development

· Contribute effectively to strategy development of the chosen campaign.

· Identify campaigns with potential for explosive growth and quick victories.

· Lead on developing and creating a framework to engage new audience and increase the value of current audiences

· Monitor and analyze external developments in political/media/corporate circles, internationally and locally, .relevant to the specific campaign area and make appropriate recommendations to campaign strategy, objectives and plans.

· Utilize available information and research findings in pursuit of campaign objectives.

· Understand the important developments in digital campaigning and the tools being used and to incorporate them into the campaign strategy.

Campaign Project Implementation

· Successfully plan, develop, co-ordinate and implement a short project phase within a larger campaign

· Develop and manage the content of the campaign.

· Monitor and authorize budgeted expenditure for/during the project phase.

· Liaise with existing networks and form new networks on a local level on existing areas of work

· Monitor and analyze developments within the project and make appropriate recommendations for action to the Digital Web designer and developer.

· Take responsibility for managing project information systems/storage and ensure proper documentation and archiving of project records.

Communication and Team Work

· Assist the development of a strong communication strategy with the target audience

· Develop powerful, clear and concise written and verbal content and communication to reach out to different audiences, including media, politicians industry etc

· Independently handle public speaking engagements like press meets, conferences etc. according to the needs of the campaign program.

· Assist the preparation of substantive press briefings and updates to inform assigned media staff on the campaign issues and maintain consistent external communication of issues.

· Represent AI India at relevant meetings/conventions with media, industry, governments, NGOs, and public, in support of the campaign strategy and activities.

Team Work and Team Management

· This position currently has no line management responsibility but eventually with the expansion of the team might require to manage other campaigners. However, the senior campaigner would be required to participate in the coordination of the work of the team, other participants in campaigning projects, temporary staff and team volunteers. The campaigner would also require to manage vendors and consultants.

· Maintain contact and collaborate with international and regional campaigners in other Amnesty International offices and provide/seek input into global/local strategies and objectives

SKILLS, ATTRIBUTES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

· At least 5-7 years relevant professional experience in online and offline grassroots organizing, social networking, e-communication, event planning and management, campaigning and/or community organizing, in a membership driven organization and/or media;

· Strong passion and belief in the aims of Amnesty International

· Strong understanding of the role that politics, economics, industry, media and social change play in the Human Rights debate in India

· Working knowledge and experience of innovative communication tools and innovative campaign strategies and mechanisms.

· Excellent verbal and written communication and language skills. Fluency in English mandatory and working knowledge of at least one more Indian language preferable.

· Commitment to, and demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team; Ability to work through conflict constructively with others

· Ability to operate and lead under pressure and in challenging situations;

· Ability to work unsupervised, and self-motivated;

· Experience of managing conflicting demands, meeting deadlines and adjusting priorities.

· Flexibility and ability to adapt to new opportunities and ideas.
