About Americares India Foundation: Americares India Foundation (AIF) is FCRA registered, health-focused relief and development organization, operating from Mumbai, since 2006. The 150+ strong team strives to saves lives and improve health for people affected by urban poverty or disaster, with life-changing health programs, medicines, medical supplies, and emergency aid. Americares plays the role of a catalyst with local and state governments to improve access to healthcare in partnership with CSRs and foundations.
Since inception, the team has responded to more than fifty major emergencies across India providing relief, supplies and health centre recovery. Our urban health model aims to accelerate universal access to healthcare for the urban slumdwellers at 130 sites in Mumbai. Working with eight state governments we are strengthening Ayushman Bharat Health & Wellness Centre program of MoH. We are driving antimicrobial stewardship for human health by establishing a model program at eleven mid-size hospital sites across seven states. Our community-based programs address the growing challenge of non-communicable diseases among the urban slum dwellers and transforming children as health ambassadors of the society.
With the corporate office in Mumbai, the field offices & representation is across multiple states in India. Our 12,000 SFT warehouse in Bhiwandi, near Mumbai, serves as a distribution centre for our emergency responses, medicine security, and primary care programs.
The FY23 annual budget of India is USD 5 Mio which moves up in major emergencies. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Americares mobilized humanitarian aid worth more than USD 15 Mio supporting more than 20 states across the country. Under the current leadership, the India office has grown significantly in size, capacity, and program footprint. We are now poised to take a fresh leap to scale our impact and are looking for a leader who will establish the pathway for expanded fundraising with corporate CSR & foundations and deepening the programmatic impact.
Position Summary: An executive role to expand Americares India’s growth potential by establishing new program partnerships with CSRs and foundations, and to lead program implementation for deepening health impact. The Country Director will work with Americares headquarters and the India Board to determine and drive the strategic vision for Americares India. S/he/they will represent Americares in India with external constituents and develop and maintain positive relationships with government, multilateral, and NGO partners. The Country Director will lead the business development with corporates and foundations, to build new programmatic partnerships and fund raising. In coordination with the leadership team, S/he/they will manage the finances, operations, and staff, and will also provide oversight for all Americares programs in India. The Country Director will be based in Mumbai with travel to program sites and other locations throughout India, as necessary, with average travel time of 20 percent.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategy, Vision & Operations -Aligned with Americares global vision and Indian CSR landscape, will develop the strategic plan for Americares India -Build robust operational plan to achieve the strategic objectives through effective implementation
New Business Development & Donor Engagement -Engage existing and new donors for multiyear funding for program partnerships -Diversify sources of funding for the India operations
Program Implementation -Directly manage effective implementation, administrative and operational lines of business to ensure proper program implementation in a manner consistent with program design and Indian law, Americares policies, procedures, and program vision -Anticipate administrative and operational gaps in program implementation, issues, risks and based on evolving needs, priorities, opportunities conduct needs analyses and make recommendations -Facilitate close coordination with HQ teams in regional programs, Emergency Programs and technical advisors
Financial Management and Compliance -Overall responsibility for fiscal soundness of country operation and maintenance of effective internal controls, including but not limited to effective cash management, and oversight of financial reporting and budgeting -Ensure India office compliance with HQ and local policies and statutory regulations and requirements, including timely financial reporting to HQ as required
Field Office Operations/Human Resource Management -Manage full India team and supervise direct reports -Provide leadership, promote professionalism and teamwork, build working relationships, and mentor all Americares India staff members to work effectively and as representatives of Americares -Partner with HQ Human Resources team to adapt and implement global policies for field office operations, ensuring that policies are in line with local regulations and link to organizational policies and procedures -Ensure compliance with all labor laws and laws governing operation as a registered NGO in India -In coordination with Americares HQ, identify human resource needs and recruit and retain staff to meet those needs -Oversee employee and overall team performance and annual performance review process -Lead diversity, equity, and inclusion practices with employees -Collaborate with mental health staff and HR to actively promote the well-being of staff
Communications -Report to HQ and India board in a timely and thorough way -Secure submission of regular reports to HQ of country and program activities -Coordinate with Americares HQ, including Operations, Programs, Finance, Development, and Communications as appropriate -Lead external communications in country in coordination with Marketing and Communications at HQ and the India Communications Coordinator -Represent the organization at national, regional, and global conferences, coordination meetings, working groups, public events and with the press
Representation and Coordination -Serve as legal representative for Americares India – executing all corresponding communications and functions in an effective, professional, and timely manner -Serve as official representative of Americares in all government and community affairs, actively engage local stakeholders and pursue collaboration and partnerships with other NGOs, INGOs, relevant Ministries, and private sector
Security, Health, and Safety -Update, adapt, implement and secure full adherence of all India staff to global safety and security policies -Coordinate security planning, monitoring, and systems with peer organizations, the UN system, and local authorities -Conduct discussions to identify and determine approaches to address staff’s stress levels and sense of security
Core Americares Responsibilities: -Foster Americares values of responsiveness, results orientation, collaboration, efficiency and integrity -Coach, support and develop staff to increase individual and team effectiveness -Develop and manage implementation of plans to increase team operating performance, including SOPs and other efficiency initiatives
Skills, Experience and Qualifications: -15+ distinguished years in a leadership position in a multinational nonprofit organization, foundation, or strategic/operational role in the Pharma/Healthcare industry or CSR Consulting or Business Consulting -Postgraduate with business administration, public administration, public health, or related field -Previous work experience in health domain will be preferred or an added advantage -Experience overseeing implementation of large-scale health or development sector programs -Proven track record of developing budgets, supervising financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with donor rules and regulations -Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interface with high level government, donors, NGO, and INGO officials and authorities. -Proven experience mentoring and overseeing staff professional development. -Strong organizational skills, capacity to think strategically, and attention to detail. -Track record delivering superior results, commanding respect, and assuming leadership roles -Success in roles requiring execution of multiple tasks while responding to multiple priorities -Proven ability to work with efficiency, flexibility, and good humor -Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide array of people – junior and senior, for-profit and nonprofit, and from diverse backgrounds/identities/locations -Operates with excellence in mind in all matters, with the confidence to defend/debate ideas without ego interfering
Key Requirements, Languages, and Competencies: -Indian Nationality, Passport -Excellent communication skills in Hindi and English, including high proficiency in written English -Proficiency in Office 365 including Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint and SharePoint -Willingness and ability to travel as needed
