Head of Systems Innovation and Change

Start Network has an exciting opportunity for a systems innovation and change specialist to join our team. The role holder will be our champion for systems innovation and change helping to drive our ambitions in line with our vision and mission. The role provides strategic insight, expertise and thinking to both internal and external stakeholders and will work closely with Start Network’s members, hubs and staff team, to develop their understanding of how systems change happens and how this can be practically embedded in their work. It will help align teams around our mission through the development of a coherent and innovative systems change strategy; lead a team focused on innovation and oversee a portfolio of system change initiatives. The role will work closely with the CEO, CFOO and other heads of teams.

We are looking for candidates who are passionate about bringing change to the humanitarian sector. Candidates must have significant knowledge of systems change approaches and applying them to change mindsets and practice, and proven experience of experiential, facilitative and relational approaches to innovation and system change. Candidates will also demonstrate experience of building and supporting communities of practice across diverse geographies, organisations and networks

The candidates we are looking for are strategic thinkers, who are able to able to influence stakeholders to address difficult or complex issues. Candidates must be able to generate and support implementation of ideas by promoting these to relevant internal and external stakeholders.

The role may be based in any of our countries of operation (UK, DRC, Bangladesh, Guatemala, India, Kenya, Pakistan, Senegal, South Sudan, or the Philippines). Other locations will be considered for exceptional candidates. If based in UK the full-time salary will be £57,000 to £59,000 dependent on skills and experience; if based in other countries then a sector competitive salary will be offered for the relevant country market.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Significant knowledge of systems change approaches and applying them to change mindsets and practice.
  • Significant experience of experiential, facilitative and relational approaches to innovation and system change
  • Experience of building and supporting communities of practice across diverse geographies, organisations and networks
  • Excellent inclusive leadership skills that value diversity
  • Excellent strategic thinking skills
  • Experience in using innovation technical skills and approaches such as design thinking, systems thinking and analysis, prototyping, systems mapping, sense making etc.
  • Good knowledge of the international humanitarian system or comparable international system
  • Commitment to and understanding of approaches to de-colonisation and anti-racism
