About Blossom
Blossom is a grassroots non-profit organisation founded in 1993 in Tamil Nadu, India. Blossom is working towards the personal, social and economic development of disadvantaged and marginalized members of the community – especially women and children. The projects and activities of Blossom Trust fall into four main areas of focus:
Children: working with kids affected by HIV/AIDS and/or TB to ensure they have access to education
Economics: helping marginalized women who have been affected by HIV/AIDS and/or TB become economically self sufficient through a variety of trainings)
Environment: projects related to Dayspring Organic Farm
Health: community-based prevention and care of tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS

What We’re Looking For
Blossom Trust is seeking a highly motivated and creative Media and Communications Officer to help us enhance our communications strategy. It is important that you are able to work as a team as well as be self-directed and be adaptable to ever-changing situations.
If you have what it takes to cut through the noise and make the needs of the marginalised in our community seen and heard, then you are the kind of person we are looking for.
You will work alongside the Grant Writing and Project Development Officer as well as the director of Blossom, Mercy Annapoorni.
Duration
The successful candidate will be based in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu, on a full-time basis (9:30-6:30, Monday to Friday) for a period of 6 months (minimum), starting as soon as possible.
Roles and Responsibilities
The work you will be entrusted with is crucial to the success of Blossom Trust.
Social Media: Update social media pages, generate content, and develop and implement creative social media strategies (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Monitor social media analytics
Website: Proofread blogs and updates and input them into our website
- Create and update web pages
- Understand domain web hosting, domain registration, maintenance, etc.
Outreach: Contact relevant organisations or media outlets to help raise the profile of Blossom Trust
- Update past volunteers and donors on the goings on of the organisation
Design: Assist with the development of information materials, including brochures and newsletters
Manage: Short-term volunteers come to Blossom on a fairly regular basis. Together, with the Grants and Fundraising Officer, you will work to help orchestrate their travel, and over-see any other types of works they will be performing during their time at Blossom
- Work on updating and organising Blossom's current volunteer portals. The more volunteers we can attract, the better!
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree required, Master’s degree preferred
- Ideally in Communications, Journalism, International Development, or a related field
- Proficiency in English required
- Proficiency in Tamil is an added bonus but not necessary!
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Knowledge and interest in still and video photography and editing software preferred
- Understanding of website development and maintenance also preferred

- Experience in organising and prioritising own work
- Effective team player with the ability to work and think independently, and to be resourceful and proactive
- Passion for social media and its potential as tool for advocacy
- Demonstrated interest in international issues and non-profit work

Compensation and Start Date
- Interns will be offered a stipend of INR 5000 per month
- Full room and board will be provided
- Start as soon as possible
- 6 month minimum commitment, 12 month maximum with room for extension
