The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is now recruiting a Communication Manager to oversee the communications relating to Country Programme activities in Asia and develop, coordinate and execute communications strategies to be implemented in/for GAIN offices, specifically Bangladesh, India, Indonesia and Pakistan. This role is offered on a fixed-term contract for two years with the possibility for extension subject to funding.

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable to malnutrition.

About the Role

The Communications Manager, Asia Country Programmes will develop, coordinate and execute communications strategies to be implemented in/for GAIN offices in Asia specifically Bangladesh, India, and Indonesia and Pakistan and other GAIN offices as required. They will strive to foster better understanding and support to GAIN’s operational work as well as make sure that GAIN’s information, advice, and guidance effectively reaches key audiences to increase uptake of nutritious and safe diets.

Specific Responsibilities include;

  • Developing, coordinating and supervising the execution of the global communications strategy in relevant countries and the activities organised across online and offline channels in alignment with GAIN’s priorities
  • Delivering regular thought leadership content i.e. interviews, podcasts, opinion pieces and related content
  • Delivering compelling copy from the field showcasing GAIN’s work and impact in addressing malnutrition in countries of focus
  • Identifying key opportunities to profile country leadership in relevant convening settings i.e. as speakers in events or webinars or networks of local organisations
  • Strengthening the digital communication at country level through targeted digital engagement and positioning
  • Populating and delivering quality audio-visual services through commissioning external vendors to ensure we have availability of quality multimedia tools such as photos, infographics, and videos
  • Building internal communications capacity by providing timely and effective information to all staff across countries and promoting stronger staff engagement
  • Delivering effective capacity building in full collaboration with operations, training sessions and webinars on global media skills lab in preparations for media field visits
  • Supporting GAIN’s online fundraising to increase contributions from private sector for instance
  • Providing guidance, tools and content to GAIN’s Asia offices to reinforce coherence in messaging and brand.

About You

You must be a self-starter with proven experience of working in a similar role, preferably with an NGO or international organisation. You'll be an effective communicator and be able to use this skill to develop positive relationships to motivate the team and external stakeholders. In addition, you will have substantial experience in the field of media relations and / or public relations and corporate communications, preferably across multiple low or middle income countries. You must be confident and fully conversant in business English, both written and verbal. Fluency in another GAIN country language would be an advantage.

In addition to the above, you should be educated to Master’s level in communications, public relations, journalism, international relations or international development.

About our Offer

The starting salary on offer for this role is from INR 1,578,330 to 1,805,954 per annum, dependent on experience.

The starting date for this role, to be agreed with the successful applicant, will not commence until after the 1st January 2022.
