**Background

Terre des Hommes Netherlands (TdH NL) is an international NGO that prevents child exploitation, rescues children from exploitative situations and ensures that these children can continue their development in a safe environment. In Asia, Terre des Hommes Netherlands works in Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Nepal. We support children who are victims of exploitation with education, psychosocial support, legal assistance, care, job opportunities and medical care. We launch public and media campaigns to create awareness on the problem and carry out local research into the extent and nature of abuse and exploitation.

TdH NL in Asia focuses works within four child protection themes: the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC), the Worst Forms of Child Labour (WFCL), Child Trafficking and Migration (CTM), and Child Abuse (CA) in the form of Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights. As part of its multi-year strategic plan (2016-2020) Terre des Hommes Netherlands plans to increase its support to comprehensive programs addressing Child Exploitation in Asia.

General Characteristics

Projects are initiated in response to organisational policy for specific areas of attention. Activities within projects may include research, informing, (organisational) development, campaigns and collaboration.

Terre des Hommes Netherlands (TdH NL) is seeking an experienced Project Coordinator (PC), who will be based in the State of Karnataka with 40% travel to the project locations and the candidate to be positioned in the Country Office for an initial period to be evaluated later. TdH-NL has developed the programme “Child Empowerment for GOOD (Getting Out Of Devadasi system and Prevention of further dedications)” to address the issue in a holistic manner in Northern Karnataka with an objective to strengthen the systems by working with Government and Law enforcement agencies to prevent children from sexual exploitation through Devadasi system. Children who are entering into commercial sexual exploitation through the Devadasi system could be prevented at large scale, using child empowerment and child participation as a unique approach. Taking into consideration of various models, utilising all possible schemes of Government to Devadasis families, and also engaging closely with law enforcement agencies, new interventions are planned in the districts of Belagavi, Bagalkote, Vijayapura, Koppal and Bellary, Karnataka State, and the coordinator will work for this project. Project strategies include: Promotion, Provision and Prevention and will require working alongside TdH staff, partner NGOs, stakeholders from Government, CSOs and law enforcement agencies as well as with children, families and communities.

Objective of the function

The project coordinator is responsible for coordinating the project, in accordance with the preselected goal(s) with regard to lead time, budget and quality.

Position in the organisation

The project coordinator is subject to hierarchical leadership from the Country Manager and provides (functional) leadership within projects.

Result areas

  1. Realising projects

Result: Implement project according to the objectives of the developed project plan and ensure that the project teams are involved, well-functioning and informed.

  • Work professionally within TdH-NL policies and codes of conduct, including those related to child protection/safeguarding, confidentiality and ethical practice.

  • Work closely with the team and with the Country Manager to ensure goals and objectives are achieved.

  • Ensure effective communication between project staff, TdH country and regional teams

  • Responsible for preparing and monitoring budgets and spending

  • Oversee project procurement and management of processes in line with TdH-NL policies.

  • Continuously analyse and manage identified risks and opportunities in the projects.

  • Use tools to monitor working hours, plans and expenditures

  • Prepare and issue all appropriate project paperwork (e.g. MoUs, ToRs etc.)

  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans and reports

  • Ensure standards and requirements are met through conducting quality assurance tests

  • Possess a strong commitment to social justice and development of quality services within the field of child sexual abuse, exploitation and violence.

  • Improve service

Result: Improve project design in such a way that responses to relevant developments and contacts are maintained.

  • Establish and maintain active and positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders including Government representatives, local authorities, community groups, beneficiaries, CSOs, NGOs etc.

  • Coordinate project management activities, resources, equipment and information

  • Break projects into realistic action plans and set timeframes

  • Liaise with project staff, partners, networks, stakeholders and others to identify and define requirements, scope and objectives

  • Assign tasks to internal teams and assist with schedule management

  • Ensure that beneficiaries needs are met to a high standard as projects evolve

  • Participate in team’s performance reviews

  • Monitor the project’s progress and respond appropriately to any issues that arise

  • Act as the point of contact and communicate project status to all participants and other national stakeholders

  • Improve workflows

Result: Improve work processes in such a way that the quality of service remains secure and employees are sustainably able to achieve the goals.

  • Assess needs and gaps, ensuring staff are provided with appropriate support, training, guidance and mentoring.

  • Work closely with teams to ensure project is implemented according to schedule

  • Track and analyse project performance (costs, performance, schedules etc.) and report to the management on changes, being able to suggest the improvements to all the above.

  • Monitor the project’s progress and respond appropriately to any issues that arise.

Education

  • Masteral degree in a social science, social work, law, business or management, or commensurate experience required.

Experience and skills required

  • Minimum of three years’ work experience in project coordination or a similar role, from conception to delivery. Preferably for an INGO, NGO, or governmental organisation, in the related field of child protection and safeguarding.

  • Proven knowledge and experience in the field of project coordination and management.

  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in project coordination or a similar role, from conception to delivery. (Preferably for an INGO, NGO, or Governmental organisation, in the related field of child protection and safeguarding).

  • High level of applied or academic thought and working ability

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Solid organisational skills, including those related to time-management, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating.

  • Knowledge of and insight into the field of sexual abuse and exploitation of children, child trafficking and migration, etc.

  • Skills in writing concrete project work plans and able to perform these tasks independently, and/or seek assistance required to complete tasks.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (Kannada highly desirable).

  • Possess strong organisational skills, including those related to prioritising, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating.

  • Ability to work well with and contribute positively to diverse teams.

  • Working knowledge of Google Office tool set (e.g. Docs, Spreadsheets, slides etc.)

  • Fluency in written and oral English is required. Kannada language is beneficial.
