About Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety
The City of Mumbai, in partnership with Vital Strategies- an affiliate of The Union North America, and with global road safety organizations, is implementing a five-year program to reduce deaths and injuries from road traffic crashes. Mumbai is one of ten cities worldwide participating in the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS), and was selected among many applicant cities for having an ambitious vision for public health and safety.
The objective is to improve road safety by increasing safer driving (slower speeds, wearing seat belts, wearing helmets, not drinking and driving), designing streets that are safer for pedestrians and vehicles, and expanding safer, sustainable transportation systems. Proven strategies to accomplish these goals include hard-hitting media campaigns, increased police enforcement of traffic laws, and infrastructure development.
Vital Strategies is welcoming internship applications from students and researchers who are enthusiastic to work in the area of road safety in Mumbai.
Time period: 4 months Location: Mumbai
Students from reputed academic institutions pursuing their Bachelors/ Masters degrees in the fields of Urban Planning & Architecture, Traffic & Transportation Planning, Development Sciences, Engineering can apply.
Position Summary
The BIGRS - Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Roads Safety is providing an opportunity for internships for students/ researchers who are passionate to work in the areas of road safety in Mumbai. The internship will be for a period of 16 weeks in Mumbai. The interns will be working with the BIGRS Team in Mumbai and support the program implementation in Mumbai.
Key Responsibilities:
1) Is motivated to work for the cause of road safety for Mumbai, able to work with diverse stakeholders, is flexible and can easily adapt to the requirements of the team.
2) Support the team in conducting road & traffic surveys, entry of traffic data and analysis, report preparations, power point presentations, etc
3) The intern will support various activities such as data entry, data processing, analysis & generate statistical reports. Prior experience in data entry and analysis of traffic data will be an advantage.
4) Good skills to work in MS Excel, ACCESS, SPSS and other statistical packages. Skills in GIS, A Cad will
be an advantage.
5) Working knowledge in Marathi is a must. Candidate should be able to read, understand and
interpret documents in Marathi
