Background:

Afghanistan is prone to both hydro-meteorological and geo-physical hazards, due to which the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat, Afghanistan (AKAH-A) started multi hazard risk assessment exercise to support risk informed decision for risk sensitive planning since 2008. AKAH-A uses ArcGIS Desktop products since beginning to manage and analyze geospatial data. To improve the system and decision-making process, AKAH-A strives to adopt tools and technology through capacity building of technical team.

Recently, AKAH-A is realized that ArcGIS Pro is one of the tools to adopt for speed-up data management process from data collection to analysis. This will strengthen the existing system to meet the increasing need of the growing organization and keep up-to-date with latest technology and practices in field of GIS. For that AKAH-A has decided to build capacity of existing staffs who are familiar with ArcGIS desktop products and new staffs who are new to ESRI product, though familiar with GIS concept.

Objective:

The main objective of this engagement is to enhance the capacity of AKAH-A’s GIS and Geologist team on ArcGIS Pro 2.4 and associated products including migration exiting data and maps from ArcMap. Further, the training should build the team’s capacity to use these products in disaster management.

Main Responsibility:

AKAH-A is seeking for competent training institution or individual consultant to deliver ArcGIS Pro 2.4 training. Following specific topics are to be covered in the training. However, it is advisable side by side to compare and just show similar tools and functionalities of ArcMap so familiar participants can relate easily.

Basic:

  • Explore interface, structure and common functionalities.
  • Creation of geo-database and layer including import, export, query, domain, subtype, join, relate, etc.
  • Spatial and attribute data editing with advance functionalities, digitization and conversion
  • Datum, coordinate system and projection including re-projection and transformation
  • Model Builder for data processing and analysis for repeated task
  • 2D/3D visualization and map preparation including organize layers, cartography, symbolization layer, labeling (basic and Maplex), annotation, layout, map elements and export in various formats.
  • Work with ArcGIS Online including explore available data and services specifically for disaster management
  • Data sharing

Advance - Spatial Analysis:

  • Proximity, overlay, zonal, extract analysis (2D and 3D)
  • Spatial data interpolation
  • Spatial statistics
  • Network Analysis
  • Watershed delineation using ArcHydro or another tool
  • Work with raster data including visualization, conversion, classification, rescale, etc.
  • Work with satellite imagery (i.e. Sentinel, Landsat) including NDVI/NDWI, extract waterbody and detect changes i.e. flooded area and damage.

Migration (ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro):

  • Import exiting ArcMap document (.mxd) file to ArcGIS Pro and reorganize according to ArcGIS Pro
  • Migration of existing Geodatabase, model and script
  • Key aspects to be consider during migration
  • Migration planning for AKAH-A GIS data and resources

Duration of Training and Deliverables:

Duration of the training is 4-5 days, either in Mumbai or Delhi, India. Training institution or consultant must provide soft/hard copy of study materials and data used during training to all participants.

Educational Background:

Master in GIS and related field with training or working experience in advance spatial analysis.

Required Skills and Experiences:

At least 5+ years of experience on ArcMap and at least 2 years of experience in ArcGIS Pro. Experience in training delivery is desirable. Experience in disaster management will be value addition.
